Apple & Pear Crumble
The cosiest dessert for a cold winter’s day. One of those classics that feels like a hug on a plate.
Ingredients:
For the filling:
3 pears
4 small red apples
1 cinnamon stick
1 1/2 tbs sugar
For the crumble:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup oats
200g cold butter, cut into cubes
Method:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Peel, core, and chop the pears and apples into small cubes.
Add the pears and apples to a pan and add a splash of water (about a quarter cup), the cinnamon stick, and sugar.
Allow to simmer for 10 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the apples & pears are soft.
In the meantime, to a large bowl, add all of the ingredients for the crumble. Use your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it is mostly mixed and makes large lumps.
Line a tin with baking paper and add the apple mixture to the bottom. Add the crumble mixture on top in chunks, ensuring that everything is covered.
Bake the apple crumble for 30 minutes until the top is golden.
Serve warm and with custard for the best flavour. Enjoy!
